The quality of a player’s final character is totally random with no balancing: they might end up with an array that has no stats below 12 and two 18’s, or they might get an array with all 8’s and one 13. That being said, there are some significant downsides to rolling. Rolling for stats is somewhat exciting, you might be able to make a unique build if you roll particularly well and there is some fun to be had in discovering what your character will be like as you roll. This is the default option presented in the Player’s Handbook (PHB). There isn’t one objective answer for which one is best, though we do believe that point buy is the option that is the most balanced for the game and the one that will be the most fun in most games.
